Motivational Interviewing Intensive

Suzy Langevin, LICSW, LADC

July 27-29, 2026 from 9:00am-4:00pm

Motivational Interviewing is a foundational counseling skill for anyone who works to support people in change. By skillfully guiding conversations towards change with compassion and intention, we can help people get ‘unstuck’ and move towards the things they want for themselves with new commitment and confidence. This three-day intensive training workshop will immerse practitioners in MI so that they can make behavior change of their own: integrating MI into their practice skill set.

Please Note: MI can only be learned by doing, so this workshop will include plenty of opportunities for practice! Please come prepared to work with your fellow trainees on exercises throughout the three days.

Monday, July 27, 2026-Day One:

Our first day will focus on the core of MI: the Spirit. We’ll explore how MI talks about change and the role we can play in supporting and empowering people to reach for improvements in their health, safety, and wellbeing. We’ll also begin to learn about reflective listening, and how that one crucial skill makes up so much of the MI practice.

Tuesday, July 28, 2026-Day Two:

On Day Two, we’ll continue our deep dive into the OARS skills that are the backbone of the practice: Open Ended Questions, Affirmations, Reflections, and Summaries. Once we’ve had a chance to practice all of these, we’ll begin to consider change talk, and how to strategically guide the conversation towards talking about change.

Wednesday, July 29, 2026-Day Three:

We’ll begin our final day by discussing ‘troubleshooting,’ how to get the conversation back on track when we’re derailed by sustain talk or discord. We’ll also discuss fidelity to the practice, and ways to blend MI with skill-building interventions to take change from “I might” to “I’m ready” to “I did.”
